The Antigua Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU) has announced the successful completion of negotiations with the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHAPA) and the signing of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
AT&LU General Secretary, Alrick Daniel said the new CBA covers approximately 40 persons including the Line Staff of the authority as well as the field agents.
“The General Secretary of the AT&LU -Alrick Daniel, Industrial Relations Officer -Kerry Dyer, Shop Stewards and Management of the Authority, Mark Richards -Housing Executive Officer, Jose-Ann Smith -HR Manager along with their representative, the Antigua and Barbuda Employers’ Federation affixed their respective signature to the CBA on 10th June 2025 at Authority’s Head Office,” a statement from the AT&LU noted.
In the press statement, the union said the new Collective Bargaining Agreement covers the period 01st January 2025 to 31st December 2027. The CBA contains several new benefits that the staff will enjoy during the life of the Agreement. These benefits include but not limited to:
- Personal Days;
- Mental Health Benefit;
- Incentive for Heavy Duty Operators when working on steep inclines;
- 8% salary increase.
Daniel described the negotiations as ‘very cordial’ acknowledging that it did get tough sometimes. “At the end of the day, this new CBA contains mutually beneficial conditions which would be pleasing to those in the bargaining unit,” Daniel stated.
He said the AT&LU is implementing a strategy to aggressively expand it representation both in the public and private sectors.
