APUA to Invest Heavily in High Speed Internet

Wednesday 2nd January, 2019-Prime Minister Gaston Browne says Antigua Public Utilities Authority will not be left behind in the advancement of Internet Technology.

As a result, the utilities company will undertake to significantly improve its current offering through an $ 80 million investment.

The prime minister has made known his position regarding other telecommunication providers, which has not gone down well with those companies. The head of government describes as exploitative, the business models used by those providers.

In his New Year’s address to the nation, Prime Minister Browne outlined that APUA will acquire its own “sub-sea cable and to democratize access to the internet through the provision of more affordable, reliable and faster internet service to residents.”

He stated that government can no longer rely on foreign-owned telecommunication companies alone to move the country to the next level of high-speed internet technology.

Mr. Browne underscored the importance of high-speed internet service to the country’s growth and development.
