Thursday 27th September, 2018-The Antiguan Government has assured India of its full cooperation in the extradition of fugitive Mehul Choksi, who is accused of scamming the Punjab National Bank of $ 2 billion.
According to the Times of India, Antigua and Barbuda has committed to resolving the issue as quickly as possible.
India’s External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj met Foreign Affairs Minister the Hon. Paul Chet Greene on the sidelines of the 73 session of the UN General Assembly and raised the issue of Choksi.
Minister Greene has reportedly conveyed to his Minister Swaraj the assurances of Prime Minister Gaston Browne for the fullest cooperation of the government in the matter.
The bilateral meeting was reportedly requested by Minister Greene, who said his country too would like the issue to be resolved quickly as possible, within the framework of Antigua’s law and court process.
Greene informed Swaraj according to the Times of India that there are certain legal angles and court procedures that need to be examined, but conveyed full commitment on the issue.
