Antigua & Barbuda Joins Global Campaign Against Plastic Pollution

Wednesday 5th December, 2018-Antigua and Barbuda is among several countries leading the charge in the global campaign against plastic pollution.

The campaign was launched at the United Nations yesterday and includes Norway and the United Nations Environmental Programme.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne told reporters in New York on Tuesday of the strides his government has made in eliminating single use plastic and Styrofoam and expressed the hope that the decision of his government will serve as an example to other nations.

Several activities have been planned to promote the campaign, including a concert as announced by Prime Minister Browne.

UN General Assembly President María Fernanda Espinosa says combating plastic pollution requires urgent attention and reiterated that if action is not taken, there will be dire consequences.

Meantime, Norway’s Deputy Permanent Representative. Mari Skare says her country is pleased to be associated with the campaign. Despite the bleak forecast, the diplomat stated that there are solutions to the growing problem.
