The Cultural Department is spearheading Antigua and Barbuda’s planned participation in the Caribbean’s premier cultural expression, Carifesta slated for Barbados from August 22 to 31.
Minister of Creative Industries, Daryll Matthew said Antigua and Barbuda expects to send a delegation of between 80 and 90 persons to ‘demonstrate to Antiguans and Barbudans and the rest of the world’ what the country has to offer culturally.
Sources at the Cultural Department said rehearsals are underway for members of both the National Youth Theatre company and the National Youth Dance company, all of whom will be among the official delegation going off to Carifesta.
The delegation will also feature representation from pan (Hell’s Gate Steelband), arts and craft from the department, traditional masqueraders and the food of the country with an emphasis on lobsters from Barbuda.
