Antigua and Barbuda has been nominated for the World Culinary Awards as the Caribbean’s Best Emerging Culinary Destination.
The announcement came from Tourism Minister, Charles Max Fernandez last Friday night at an event at Salt Plage to mark the end of Culinary Month, 2025, describing it as ‘a moment of national pride’.
Minister Fernandez said the nomination speaks to the momentum that the Ministry of Tourism and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority have built especially this year where Restaurant Week was morphed into Culinary Month and the potential that lies ahead.
“Let’s continue supporting our culinary community, because every bite we serve tells a story of who we are as a people,” he urged.
Planning Committee chair, Shermain Jeremy said the nomination is a reflection of all the hard work, creativity, and heart poured into Culinary Month by the chefs, partners, and the community.
Speaking of Culinary Month, Minister Fernandez observed that it continues to grow in flavor, impact and importance for Antigua and Barbuda. He expressed appreciation to the several visiting chefs, the sponsors – Grace Foods, Red Stripe Beer, ACB Caribbean and LIAT20 and to the team at the ABTA for a job well done.
There was special mention for two of the visiting chefs – Chef Shorne Benjamin from New York and Chef Suzanne Barr from Atlanta – as well as for Chef Amalin of Salt Plage for preparing several ‘incredible’ dishes.
