Prime Minister Gaston Browne, will lead the country’s delegation to the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), scheduled to take place in Belém, Brazil, from November 5 to 21, 2025.
COP30 is expected to convene world leaders, heads of international organizations, and senior government officials for high-level discussions on accelerating global climate action, enhancing adaptation and mitigation financing, and advancing the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Key thematic areas will include climate resilience for small island developing states (SIDS), carbon market mechanisms, loss and damage financing, and the transition toward renewable energy systems.
Prime Minister Browne will participate in a series of Ministerial and Leaders’ Summits, where he is expected to continue advocating for climate justice, sustainable financing, and strengthened global commitments to support vulnerable nations disproportionately affected by climate change.
The delegation also includes Ruleta Camacho-Thomas, Ambassador for Climate Change; Diann Black-Layne, Director of the Department of Environment; and other technical officers within the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment, and Civil Service Affairs.
Sir Molwyn Joseph is expected to join the delegation later in the session to participate in the Ministerial segment of the conference and engage in high-level discussions on environmental health, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
Antigua and Barbuda’s participation at COP30 underscores the nation’s continued leadership among small island developing states and its unwavering commitment to ensuring that the global community delivers on promises of climate action, equity, and sustainability.
