The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA) is introducing a number of
events to broaden the product offerings of the country’s tourism.
The latest is the inaugural Antigua and Barbuda Art week which officially opened
on Sunday, at the Boom Restaurant and Gunpowder House at English Harbour.
Tourism Minister, Honorable Charles Fernandez and ABTA Chief Executive
Officer, Colin C. James, were among officials who participated in the opening
exercises. In his remarks, James provided about what is to come during the
remainder of the week.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, you are in for a treat! Live music and spoken word will
fill the air, colourful and poignant displays of Antigua and Barbuda art will dot the
landscape, dancers in bright, cultural wear will burst out at national landmarks, and
inspired spectators will pick up paint brushes for interactive painting sessions with
featured artists during the week.  Here are just a few of the exciting things
happening this week. Students in Antigua and Barbuda between the ages of 5 – 17,
were encouraged to participate in the Antigua and Barbuda Art Week Schools’ Art
Competition being held under the theme ‘Culture in Colour’. We sincerely
believe the Art Week competition will motivate our students to take inspiration
from Antigua and Barbuda’s culture when creating art,” he stated.
Unfolding over seven days from April 16 through April 22, 2023, the inaugural
Antigua and Barbuda Art Week will unite the country’s greatest talents for a
colourful and musical celebration of all things art and culture. A packed slate of
engaging attractions will be complemented by a robust offering of interactive
events for spectators, including art workshops, studio tours, an outdoor movie
screening, and over 30 artists exhibiting at the Boom at Gunpowder House and the
V.C. Bird International Airport, all around the theme of “Culture in Colour’.
