Discussions are taking place to establish an exchange programme between the University of New Mexico and the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campu
Spearheading the initiative is American-born Ralph Mims, who has Barbudan roots and who lives and has close ties with the University of Albuquerque in New Mexico.
Mims has already made contact with both Minister of Education, Daryll Matthew, and Dr. Curtis Charles of the UWI FIC both of whom are said to be fully supportive of the initiative.
“We proudly celebrate the growing partnership between these two esteemed institutions, paving the way for academic and cultural exchange between students from Antigua and Barbuda and the United States.
“A heartfelt thank you to Ralph L. Mims of R. Mims World Group, whose outstanding work and commitment to nation-building continue to open doors of opportunity for the people of Antigua and Barbuda. Your leadership and vision are truly appreciated,” said community activist, Terri London wo is assisting Mims with local arrangements.
She explained Mims’ contributions to Antigua and Barbuda is helping to build bridges and create opportunities for our youths.
Mims told Point Express newspaper that already one student from the University of Albuquerque – a fourth year Philosophy and Psychology student, Florence Garcia, has already signed up for the programme and she will be spending the fall semester at UWI FIC.
“While this programme will be open to all students of the university who may wish to visit, I especially hope that African American students, many of whom have never traveled, would seize the opportunity to live and study in the Caribbean,” he stated.
This he noted would help them broaden their horizons as well as to get an understanding of the culture and people of the Caribbean.
