Ambassador Henry Highlights Threats to Regional Trade

Thursday 10th May, 2018-The chairman of the Council for Trade and Economic Development has spoken of the threat to regional trade with the increase of fake products on the market.

Antiguan Dr. Clarence Henry was addressing the meeting of Officials Preparatory to the Forty-Sixth Meeting of COTED.

From the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Dr. Henry warned that fake products and illegal labeling are posing a risk to humans and the manufacturing sectors within the region, having negative effects on economies. He is calling for a united approach on the part of regional states to combat the worrying trend.

Ambassador Henry also highlighted the disparity that exists among the least developed and more developed countries within CARICOM, which is creating unevenness in the CSME.

 COTED is one of the organs of CARICOM with a mandate to attend to matters related to intra-regional trade and overall economic development for member states.

Antigua and Barbuda currently holds the chairmanship of of the council.
