The 24-year old Grays Farm man who was intercepted with a firearm and ammunition has been sentenced to serve a prison term of 4-years, 3-months and 29 days when he appeared in the magistrate’s court for sentencing on Thursday.
Senior Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel imposed the prison term on Akeem Brookes who was found guilty of the charge in the court a day earlier. He was also sentenced to one year for the unlawful possession of ammunition. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The magistrate followed the sentencing guidelines as laid down by the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court when she imposed the prison terms.
Earlier this week, the police were carrying out a patrol in the Grays Farm area when they came upon a group of men who they saw were acting suspiciously. The police decided to carry out a search of the men individually and Brookes was found in possession of a .32 Walter pistol with 7-rounds of ammunition. He was immediately arrested and charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
