A&BUT Accepts Government One Month Salary Offer

Thursday 10th May, 2018-The Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers has agreed to accept government’s proposal of one month salary tax free that will eliminate any further obligations regarding back pay.

The proposal was made last year by Prime Minister Gaston Browne during his budget presentation.

However, the Antigua and Barbuda Public Service Association rejected the proposal demanding instead three months salary in lieu of back pay.

Appealing for common sense to prevail, the prime minister countered, with a final proposal of two months’ salary. However, it is unknown whether the ABPSA has accepted the offer.

The A&BUT through its President Ashowrth Azille informed its membership today that through consultations with the government negotiating team, it has reached an agreement, with the intention that negotiations for its contract will not be further delayed.

Azille expressed appreciation for the initial 5 percent increase public sector workers have received, but he said the Union expects that the interim payment will not compromise negotiations and they are expecting much more through contractual negotiations.
