Local residents are being urged to join a hike and raffle this Saturday to raise

desperately needed funds for the PAAWS rescue shelter which is on the brink

of closure.

The Parham-based facility marks its 20 th anniversary this year – but dwindling

donations have left it in dire straits.

Organisers hope the Valentine’s-themed event on February 17 will encourage

people to show a little love for rescue dogs and cats and raise crucial funds

towards the shelter’s running costs.

Proceeds will also benefit the Antigua Spay and Neuter Clinic.

The walk departs at 7.30am from Loose Cannon restaurant on Galleon Beach,

before heading up to Shirley Heights, along the Jones Valley Trail and back to

Loose Cannon for bacon sandwiches and drinks.

A raffle with a host of prizes including Carlisle Bay Resort’s Day-passes, a trip

with Blue Harbour Helicopters, a half-day charter with Barracuda Boat

Charters, a Lenovo tablet, and a EC$400 voucher for Maia restaurant at South

Point will be drawn on the beach at 10am.

The cost to join the guided hike is EC$100. Call 720-3081 or 784-5151 to

register or buy raffle tickets. Raffle tickets are EC$10 each and are also

available from the Ark Veterinary Clinic in Sir Vivian Richards Street.
