Notice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Applications invited

We are pleased to advise that applications are now open for the Climate, Food and Farming, Global Research Alliance Development Scholarships Programme (CLIFF-GRADS). This fellowship provides PhD students from select countries with the opportunity to undertake short-term scientific training and research stays of four to six months. The focus of the programme is on the measurement, modelling, quantification, and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, or carbon storage in agricultural systems, often in the context of enhancing food security.

The current call includes a list of seventy-seven research projects hosted by research institutes across twenty-nine countries, including New Zealand. Among these, there are four research stay opportunities in New Zealand at the Ag Emissions Centre (formerly known as the New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre), Massey University, and the Bioeconomy Science Institute.

Successful applicants will receive grants of 14,000 USD for research stays that must begin before the end of 2026.

The deadline for applications is Sunday 11 January 2026 at 11:59 p.m. GMT.

Funding for this CLIFF-GRADS call is provided by the New Zealand Government through the Ministry for Primary Industries (New Zealand is a major funder of this programme), in support of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA), and by the Global Methane Hub.

For full details, including the list of projects, and how to apply, please visit: CLIFF-GRADS Fellowships: Open for applications! | Global Research Alliance

We would be grateful if you could please share this opportunity with appropriate contacts.
