Senior members of the Antigua and Barbuda government as well as members of the parliamentary opposition and other officials attended a reception at the Chinese Embassy to formally welcome the new Chinese Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, Jaing Wei, who arrived in the country a few weeks ago.

Led by Governor General, Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams, the other officials included Foreign Affairs Minister, E.P Chet Greene and other Cabinet colleagues, Opposition Leader, Jamale Pringle and other members of his team, members of the diplomatic corps, head of the ABDF, Brig. Telbert Benjamin, Police Commissioner, Everton Jeffers, Chief Immigration Officer, Katrina Yearwood and other senior members of the administrative arm of the government.

“Her Excellency brings to her appointment considerable diplomatic experience and a distinguished record of service, having served the PRC with professionalism and dedication in a range of international assignments. We are confident that her experience, insight and diplomatic acumen will serve to further strengthen the already robust ties between Antigua and Barbuda and China,” he observed.

Foreign Minister Greene welcomed the new ambassador noting that China has contributed to practically every sector in the country as it stands out as Antigua and Barbuda’s most significant development partner.

“China’s support covers the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, the expansion of the Deep Water Harbour, the VC Bird International Airport and the housing development underway at Booby Alley in the Point. China’s contribution extends into the future with further construction of housing in Bolans and Barbuda,” the minister noted.

Ambassador Jaing said since she arrived in Antigua and Barbuda she has been made to feel welcome and the warmth, sincerity and hospitality of the people have contributed to making her feel at home.

“It is my great honor to serve as the Chinese Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda. By taking up the baton of advancing the development of China-Antigua and Barbuda relations, I am committed to giving it my all and accelerating our journey forward during my tenure,” she indicated.
