Police Investigate Shooting Incident at Liberta

Police are conducting investigations into a shooting incident at Liberta  in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Around 12:20 a.m., police officers attached to the Liberta Police Station responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Hamlet Road, Liberta.

On arrival, officers met a male occupant who reported that two masked intruders, both slimly built and dressed in black, forcibly entered his home. One is said to be approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, while the other is described as about 6 feet tall.

It was further reported that a struggle ensued between the man and his attakers, and during the struggle he was shot in his left thigh. The assailants reportedly fled the scene with a bag containing money and several personal documents.

The victim was transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre by emergency medical personnel. His injury is said to be non-life-threatening.

The police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist in identifying the suspects to contact the Liberta Police Station at 460-1001, the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913, or Crimestoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).

Meanwhile, Police Investigate Wounding Incidents Involving Students

Police are investigating two separate wounding incidents involving students.

Around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, two separate fights broke out between a group students on High Street.

In the first incident, a 16-year-old male student reported that he was attacked by a group of about six other students while walking with friends. He sustained wounds to his left arm and temple.

In a separate incident, a 17-year-old male student was similarly attacked by a group of students in the same area. He received a wound to his right arm. Both victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Investigations remain ongoing into both incidents.

The Police Administration is expressing serious concern over rising violence among students and is urging parents, guardians, and the wider community to become more involved in guiding and monitoring young people. The public is encouraged to support the police in addressing this growing issue and to report any behaviour that may lead to violence.

Police Arrest Suspect for Breaking into Ottos Comprehensive School

Police have arrested a male suspect in connection with a reported break-in at the Ottos Comprehensive School.

Sometime around 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, officers  attached to the Criminal Investigations Department responded to a report of a break-in at the educational institution.

Upon arrival, investigators observed where the perpetrator gained access into the building and stole several items, including stationery.

The officers conducted a search in the area, and later apprehended a male suspect of Villa. He was found carrying a bag with items suspected to have been stolen. He was arrested on suspicion of Building Breaking and Larceny and transported to the St. John’s Police Station. Investigations are ongoing.

Police continue to urge members of the public to report suspicious activities and to assist in protecting schools and other vulnerable institutions.
