The Logos Hope, part of the family of ships that travel the world selling books and offering a message of hope, sailed into the St. John’s Harbour Wednesday for a two-week visit.

The vessel arrived in from neighbouring St. Kitts and the visit to Antigua is part of its cruise through the Caribbean. A welcome reception was held aboard the vessel Wednesday morning with the Governor General, Sir Rodney Williams, offering words of welcome on behalf of the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

He noted that the vessel last visited Antigua and Barbuda in 2017 and he is happy to welcome the vessel to St. John’s for the first time in eight years.

“The Logos Hope is more than just a vessel: she is a floating book-fair, a mobile library, a cultural meeting place, and a platform for service and outreach. She opens her gangways in each port to hundreds, even thousands, of visitors, brings more than 5,000 titles of literature to each community, and in recent years has served over one million visitors annually worldwide,” he observed.

Sir Rodney noted that the ship’s mission is to share knowledge, to help, and its message of hope, resonates deeply with the nation’s own national aspirations. “In Antigua and Barbuda, we believe in the power of education, literacy, and cultural exchange. We believe in the capacity of ideas to transform lives, and we welcome the Logos Hope’s presence as an opportunity for our citizens, especially our young people, to learn, explore, and be inspired,” Sir Rodney stated.

There are just over three hundred crew members drawn from more than sixty countries who volunteer their service.

A company spokesman said while in Antigua, the crew will engage in a community based project as they seek to make a lasting contribution to Antigua and Barbuda.

The Logos Hope is part of the family of ships that includes – the Logos, Logos ll, and Doulos – all of which have visited Antigua and Barbuda multiple times over the past several years.

Newly knighted Sir Lionel Max Hurst, assisted with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Antigua and Barbuda leg of the Caribbean tour. The next stop for Logos Hope is Grenada.
