Prime Minister Gaston Browne affirmed that the government’s core strategy is “investing in people” — a foundation for sustainable national development. Among the key initiatives announced in the 2025 Independence Address are:
- A state-of-the-art renal centre offering dialysis and transplant services;
- Conversion of the former Jehovah’s Witness headquarters into a multi-million-dollar mental-health facility;
- A $200 million expansion of the University of the West Indies (Five Islands) campus, with new dorms, labs and research facilities.
In previous addresses, Browne emphasized that “the overall objective is to attain and sustain GDP growth over the next five years of at least 6 %, which is inclusive, generates jobs, and reduces vulnerability and poverty.”
He added: “Every classroom we open, every home we build, every patient we heal — that is independence in action.”
This latest investment wave follows his assurance that the private sector would be mobilised to deliver thousands of new jobs through resort construction and infrastructure expansion.
