A relatively strong earthquake rocked Antigua and Barbuda early Monday morning with an aftershock rocking the country within the space of half an hour later.
The Antigua and Barbuda Met Office, the local agency that provides information on these phenomena, reported that the first quake was registered at approximately 8:38 am registering 6.1 on the Richter Scale.
Seventeen minutes later, at 8:55 am, the second quake or after shock, shook the country measuring 6.8 on the Richter Scale.
The first quake was said to be 16.5 degrees north and 59.6 degrees north and recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers or 6 miles. The second quake/aftershock was said to be in the general vicinity of the first.
There have not been any reports of damage to property or any injuries associated with the quakes.
