The Rotary Club of Antigua installed a Peace Pole at Clare Hall Secondary School marking a meaningful step in promoting peace, unity, and understanding among the nation’s youth.

A Peace Pole is recognized worldwide as a monument that carries the universal message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” More than just a symbol, it stands as a constant reminder of the importance of harmony in communities, schools, and nations.

During the unveiling ceremony last Friday, the President of the Rotary Club of Antigua, Elisa Graham reflected on the significance of this initiative, she highlighted that the Peace Pole as more than a monument, it is a reminder to students that peace begins within and is reflected in how persons think, speak, and treat one another. “By placing this Peace Pole here, we are planting a seed of unity, compassion, and understanding. We hope it grows into a lasting reminder that every student has the power to be a peacemaker in their homes, their school, and one day, in the world,”

The Principal of Clare Hall Secondary School, Lorna Richardson, expressed her delight at being chosen for this initiative: “It is indeed a pleasure and an honor for us at Clare Hall Secondary School to be part of this initiative. Immediately when I heard of it, I was excited and eager to welcome it. Now, I am very happy that this initiative is now a reality, and I also want to say thank you to the Rotary Club of Antigua. Here at Clare Hall, we strive not only to educate for academics but to instill peace, teach conflict resolution, and raise productive citizens who will contribute to Antigua and Barbuda. We therefore welcome this initiative wholeheartedly, and indeed — may peace prevail on earth.”

President Elisa also added, “To the students of Clare Hall Secondary School, this Peace Pole is for you. Let it inspire you to listen more, care deeper, and lead with kindness. And to the teachers and administrators, thank you for nurturing not only minds but hearts. Your work is essential to the peace we all strive for. As Rotarians, our mission is Service Above Self. Today, that service is rooted in hope — hope that peace will not just be a dream, but a shared reality.”

This initiative underscores the Rotary Club of Antigua’s ongoing commitment to fostering peace and goodwill, particularly among young people, who hold the promise of shaping a more harmonious future.
