A meeting of the Public Accounts Committee of parliament, which is a creature of the Constitution, is taking place at the Parliament Chambers this afternoon with Opposition Leader, Jamale Pringle, sitting in the chair presiding over the proceedings.
Pringle told Point Express that the meeting will discuss the audited statements for the year 2020, which is the latest financial statement that is available. He said there is likely to be questions raised regarding the information featured in the statements thus giving rise to a robust discussion on the matter.
Along with Pringle, the Parliamentary Representative from Barbuda, Trevor Walker is the other member on the opposition benches who is a member of the PAC. The government side is represented by the member for St. John’s City East, Melford Nicholas, the member for St. John’s Rural South, Daryll Matthew and the member for All Saints West, Anthony Smith Jnr., who caucuses with the government.
The Public Accounts Committee is authorised to query government’s expenditures and it is headed by the Leader of the Opposition.
