The police have launched an investigation into a fatal traffic accident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, along the Sir Sidney Walling Highway in the vicinity of the North Sound Bridge.
Reports reaching the police indicate that the driver – Luis Jose Vargas Ramon, 49, of North Sound – was driving his vehicle along with a passenger when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the road.
Initial reports indicate that the vehicle plunged into the water near the bridge. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found Ramon unresponsive inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at 9:07 a.m.
The other occupant of the vehicle was receiving medical attention at the SLBMC up to yesterday.
Police are still at the scene carrying out further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
