Reigning Men’s Division 1 champions Theatric Lighting and Stage Effects and JOMA Caribbean Stoneville have consolidated their second-place position in the Antigua and Barbuda Amateur Volleyball Association’s (ABAVA) Local League.

Stoneville claimed their seventh win in nine matches by snatching a hard-fought 3-2 victory against the Storming Lions in their keenly contested affair at the indoor stadium of the YMCA Sports Complex.

It took the Stoneville men two hours and 12 minutes to prevail against the Storming Lions, who made the better start of the two men’s teams by winning the opening set 25-22.

Stoneville hit back to level the match by winning the second set 25-21 and won the third 25-15 to take a 2-1 lead. The Storming Lions rebounded to force a fifth and deciding set by winning the fourth 25-17 to draw level at 2-2.

However, Stoneville took the match by winning the fifth set 16-14 as the Storming Lions remain in third place in the seven-team Men’s Division 1 round-robin league after slumping to their fourth loss in 10 games.

Jets wrapped up their campaign in the Women’s Division 1 League by soaring to a 3-1 victory against DHS Enterprises, Print Xpress and Auto Craze Royal Cruisers in their final outing in the six-team round-robin competition.

After losing the opening set 16-25, the Jet roared into life, taking the next three sets, 25-21, 25-14, and 25-22, to win the match in an hour and 53 minutes.

The Jets finished their league campaign in third place with a record of four wins and six losses from their quota of 10 games.

The Royal Cruisers, who have one game left, remain in the cellar after crashing to their eighth loss in nine encounters.
