The Guyana-based Indian High Commissioner, Dr. Amit Telang, on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Gaston Browne and other officials of the Antigua and Barbuda government.

During those discussions, High Commissioner Telang discussed the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which Antigua and Barbuda will host next year.

As the largest and most populous country within the Commonwealth Grouping, High Commissioner Telang explored areas where India may be able to offer assistance to make the staging of this massive event a success.

The Antigua and Barbuda government had previously reached out to India for assistance with staging of CHOGM and the presence of the High Commissioner in St. John’s is to discuss some of those details with Prime Minister Browne and others.

The High Commissioner also met with Health Minister, Sir Molwyn Joseph, Information Minister, Melford Nicholas and Education Minister, Daryll Matthew.

During his discussions with Minister Matthew, the Indian diplomat discussed continued Indian assistance in the field of education and he raised the possibility of offering special training in India for Antigua and Barbuda women cricketers.
