Antigua and Barbuda started discussion regarding the introduction of a paperless border control system at the VCBIA some seven years ago, however, the country may benefit from introducing such a system at this time after all.
Chief Immigration Officer, Katrina Yearwood said the delay has helped Antigua and Barbuda to introduce a system that is at the cutting edge of available technology and already it is better than what she has observed during recent travels in the Caribbean.
“If we had gone ahead and introduce such a system seven years ago, it would not have been as sophisticated as the one we have now and secondly, we have been able to get a system that already incorporates Artificial Intelligence that is no integrated in the system,” she observed.
Yearwood noted that following recent trips to St. Maarten and Curacao she can now say that Antigua and Barbuda is leading with this type of technology.
It was also disclosed that other islands are looking t the new ArriveAntigua.com system and are currently exploring how they can introduce a similar system into their destinations.
