Prime Minister Gaston Browne says there is no evidence that the Trinidad and Tobago national – Thomas Vasquez – has gone missing here in Antigua and Barbuda.
The prime minister addressed the issue after a member of the Trinidad and Tobago government raised concern over the alleged missing individual.
However, according to PM Browne, the T&T national has had a history of arriving in Antigua and Barbuda by aircraft and leaving clandestinely via boats. This, he disclosed, is something which the individual has been reportedly done several times.
The prime minister noted that if the T&T official wanted to raise the matter, then he ought to do the right thing; write formally to the ministry of foreign affairs and make a formal request.
Noting that more than 500 persons go missing annually in T&T, PM Browne said the official has no moral authority to making the assertion regarding the situation in Antigua and Barbuda when he has a much bigger problem on his hand.
According to the prime minister, while he sympathises with the family of the young man, his ‘disappearance’ is at this point a matter of conjecture.
Meanwhile, a woman who was reported missing more than 30 years ago, has surfaced in Venezuela and the government is making arrangements for her safe return to Antigua and Barbuda. PM Browne said he spoke directly with the individual who explained that her disappearance was a result of a set of circumstances beyond her control.
