A fire alarm at the APUA Headquarters building on High Street triggered an immediate evacuation of the building on Wednesday.

A company spokesman said that at approximately 11:45 a.m. Wednesday May 7, 2025, the fire alarm at the APUA Business Centre was triggered. Evacuation protocols were immediately activated, and staff safely exited the building and assembled in the vacant lot at the top of High Street.

The St. John’s Fire Brigade responded promptly. Following a full safety inspection and routine checks of the premises, staff and customers were advised that it was safe to return to their respective areas.

“APUA is grateful that the alarm was not caused by an actual fire emergency  and that all staff were safely accounted for. We extend our sincere thanks to the on-site security officers and the St. John’s Fire Brigade for their swift and professional response,” the spokesman stated.

According to the spokesman the setting off of the fire alarm was not a malicious act but it was caused by an equipment that was being used at the time.

Additionally, suggestions that the assembling of the staff in the vacant lot adjacent to the building was because of industrial action, were also dismissed. “There was no industrial action,” the spokesman declared.
