The police are investigation a brazen daylight robbery at the Point Wharf on Thursday morning that involved the Barbuda Council appointed senator in the Upper House, Sen. Fabian Jones.
According to police reports, Jones had just arrived in Antigua from Barbuda by boat when an unknown armed assailant dressed in dark clothing robbed him of an undisclosed sum of money shortly after disembarking a vessel from Barbuda.
“This vehicle pulled up next to me as I was walking and a man wearing sky-mask demanded that I hand over my bag with the money. I have a friend with a similar colour vehicle and I thought it was him and that it was a joke,” Senator Jones told Point Express newspaper.
The suspect reportedly then fled the scene in a black Honda CR-V. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding the suspect or the vehicle to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914. Members of the public can also call the anonymous Crimestoppers Hotline at 800-TIPS (8477).
