Just three days after he was elected as the ABLP caretaker/candidate for the St. George constituency, Michael Freeland was re-appointed to the Senate in a move designed to provide better representation for the people of the constituency.
In providing the rationale for the move, ABLP Political Leader and Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, said while he had given a commitment that a Senate appointment will be made of a youth, someone below the age of 30 years, he decided to delay that move as he saw a need to provide better representation for the people of St. George.
The prime minister has repeatedly bemoaned what he sees as poor representation for the people of the St. George by the current representative, Algernon ‘Serpent’ Watt.
“Based on the fact that the people of St. George do not have proper representation at this time; there is a void that needed to be filled and that is why I have decided to accelerate the appointment of Michael Freeland to the Senate, so that the people of St. George can have a parliamentary voice, although not in the Lower House, as someone who can represent their interest who can make representation to get infrastructure work done to ensure that the constituency is properly manicured, that the garbage is properly collected etc.,” PM Browne explained.
Meanwhile, Senator Freeland will hold a ‘thank you’ public rally in New Winthorpes on Thursday night where leaders of the ABLP will also participate.
