Acting Commissioner of Police, Everton Jeffers, will be confirmed into the post shortly.
This follows the departure of Commissioner of Police, Atlee Rodney, who is now on leave, but who will soon take up an appointment as Deputy Director of the Regional Security Service based in Barbados.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne made the announcement on the Browne and Browne radio programme on Saturday.
“I can say here that COP Rodney is on leave and his deputy, Everton Jeffers, will eventually be confirmed in the post so there will be a new Commissioner of Police. Additionally, we are going to use the opportunity to elevate a few of the younger officers in the force to ensure continuity. When you look at the top leadership, Jeffers, DC Albert Wade and others, you have to start the planning for the next five years for solidly trained and experienced officers to take over the mantle for the police force,” he indicated.
