Air arrivals up five percent in January compared with January 2019

Tourist arrivals by air are up five percent in January this year when compared with

the same month in 2019, the best year on record for tourist arrivals.

The latest figures reported by the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism

Association show the arrivals for the first month of the year totaling 31,306

compared with 29,669 for January 2019.

The United States continues its perch of the top of the ladder with 14,608

passengers compared with 29,669 for 2019. The next important source market for

visitors is the UK with 7,955 compared with 7,681. Canada is the third most

valuable source market for visitors to Antigua and Barbuda with 4,525 recorded

this year compared with 5,752 for 2019.

Occupancy for the month was down marginally compared with January 2019. The

data shows occupancy at 85.5 percent compared with 86.5, a decline of one

percent. The figures for 2023 was 86.4 percent.

The lion share of overnight visitors stay in hotel taking 69 percent of the market

with guest houses and homes coming in second and third respectively.
