The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission now has its full complement of
members with the appointed of Clovis St. Romain as the latest commissioner.
St. Roman received his letter of appointment and was sworn in on Monday by the
Governor General, Sir Rodney Williams. His is the nominee jointly approved by
Antigua and Barbuda Evangelical Alliance (ABEA) and the Antigua Christian
Council (ACC). He replaces Madeline Blackman who retired this year.
“I have served as an electoral observer here since 2004 when both ABEA and the
ACC jointly mounted observer mission to oversee the conduct of general elections
here in Antigua and Barbuda. It is my expectation that the experiences that I gained
during those missions will now serve me well as I take up this new role,” he stated.
St. Romain also indicated that he favours a role for the church to observe the
electoral processes in the country. “The church has an important role to play to
ensure the integrity of the elections in the country; that is how I see my role as a
member of ABEC. Our elections must be free, fair and free from fear,”
Commissioner St. Romain indicated.
With his appointment, ABEC now has its full complement of seven
commissioners. They are chairman, Arthur Thomas, Deputy Chairman Eugene
Francis, Anthonyson King, Alric Daniel, Juliet Benjamin, Vernest Mack and
Clovis St. Romain.
