Spa Therapist at Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa, Threcia Thorpe, is
sharing her success story with others on the importance of tapping into learning
and development opportunities that companies provide for their team members and
how these can play a role in an individual’s success.
Thorpe, who has been employed by the regional resort chain for the last 15 years,
has been actively engaged in professional development courses through the
Sandals Corporate University (SCU), an innovative corporate strategy focused on
building Team Members knowledge, skills and attitudes, developing future leaders
for Sandals.
She said, “being enrolled in the various hospitality courses throughout my tenure
with the company has aided in my personal and professional development goals.
The courses are very timely and have motivated me to gain additional international
certification with the goal of one day becoming a spa manager.”
The Sandals Corporate University continues to break new ground in the Caribbean
by offering a unique opportunity for the resort’s team members. “This university is
the first of its kind in the region, providing a chance for every team member, to
receive certification. This is a game-changer for employees who have a desire to
advance themselves through education and training,” Sandals General Manager
David Latchimy added.

The SCU offers a wide range of programmes, catering to the diverse needs of its
employees. From basic hospitality-specific training to advanced degrees, the
university has something for everyone. By partnering with internationally
recognized universities, professional organizations, and local educational
institutions, the SCU ensures that its programmes are of the highest quality and
meet industry standards.
Thorpe, who is now currently enrolled at the Spa Education Academy in England
where she is pursuing a program in Spa and Salon Management, encourages her
fellow team members and colleagues to take advantage of the courses available on
SCU’s interactive learning platform.
