Caribbean pharmacists conclude symposium in Antigua

Sunday 4th February 2024 marked the conclusion of the three-day Caribbean
Association of Pharmacists (CAP) Symposium, hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda
Pharmaceutical Society.
The Symposium, which commenced on Friday, February 2nd, focused on the
theme Pharmacists making a difference in patients lives”. It was held in a hybrid
format, in person and online via social media platforms.
Pharmacists, renowned as the most accessible community healthcare
professionals, have convened to address pressing healthcare challenges amidst
evolving landscapes.
Celebrating its forty-eighth year of professional excellence, CAP underscores the
importance of continuous learning and improvement among its members,
highlighting the Symposium as a platform for pharmacists to stay updated on
dynamic pharmaceutical and healthcare environments.
Presentations include research papers from students of the Antigua and Barbuda
School of Pharmacy, exploring topics such as patient medication counseling and
drug storage practices, aiming to emphasize patient compliance, safety, and cost
implications.
The Symposium, welcomed participants from across the Caribbean, fostered
professional comradery and regional integration within the pharmaceutical
community. With plans to elevate pharmacy programs and increase the number of
skilled professionals, the Symposium signals a commitment to advancing the
pharmaceutical sector in Antigua and Barbuda.
Minister of Health, Sir Molwyn Joseph, expressed his support, stating,The
Symposium serves as a crucial platform for advancing healthcare standards and
ensuring that pharmacists are equipped to meet the evolving needs of our
communities.
As the Symposium concluded, organizers and participants aim to translate gathered
insights into tangible improvements in patient care, not only in Antigua and
Barbuda but across the wider Caribbean region.
