Acting Prime Minister and National Security Minister, Sir Steadroy Benjamin, has
issued a warning to members of the public advising them not to harbour or in any
way assist the two Jamaican nationals who are n the run from law enforcement.
The two females, Donnalie Samantha Salmon and Tiffanie Natalie Howell were
placed in the Detention Centre at the Immigration Department awaiting deportation
when they escaped through a window at the facility.
The Immigration Department issued a national Wanted Bulletin for information
leading to the recapture of the escapees.
Sir Steadroy summoned a meeting on Monday with the senior officers of the
Immigration Department to discuss the failures in the system that led to the women
successfully escaping from the centre.
“Anyone who harbours these individuals or in any way provide them with material
or other assistance is likely to have charges brought against them. This is a serious
matter and we want the public to treat it as such,” he declared.
Additionally, the national security minister said the meeting recommended that a
number of steps should be put in place to ensure that there is no recurrence of this
situation.
The department is currently recruiting more officers to fill the gaps in the various
teams of officers in place to enable them to function at a higher level of efficiency.
Other measures will also be put in place to make escaping from the centre much
more difficult to achieve.
Meanwhile, the department is reporting that the two women are still on the run and
it has renewed the appeal for information that would lead to their recapture.
