An intense and sustained programme of professional training is underway for

teachers employed within the public education system organized by the Ministry of

Education.

Director of Education, Clare Browne, said the ministry is very serious about

upskilling the members of the teaching fraternity who impart knowledge to

students in the classrooms.

That training, he emphasized, is ongoing for teachers from the pre-school level all

the way to those in the tertiary level institutions.

“We have professional development training at the primary level to ensure

teaching is at a premium and at the secondary level our training is designed to

ensure the enhancement of leadership skills for those teachers who manage the

school plants. These include principals, heads of departments and level heads,”

Browne disclosed.

According to the director the training follows a standardized module across the

board to ensure that the skill levels throughout the system meet an established

standard of professionalism and approach regardless of where a particular principal

or department head may be based.

“Our professional development programme is critical as it is a means of improving

the quality of education being offered throughout the system,” he remarked.

Director Browne Browne has provided insights into the MOE’s vision for the

future and the means through which it hopes to realise this vision.

(During this week, Point Express will provide further insights into the MOE

vision for education for 2024 and beyond).
