As Antigua and Barbuda prepares to attend the upcoming COP28 meeting in
Dubai, the country announces its membership in the Alliance of Small Island
Developing States (AOSIS).
AOSIS is a coalition of small island and low-lying coastal countries that advocate
for sustainable development and climate action, particularly in the face of the
disproportionately adverse impacts of climate change on their territories.
“The inclusion of Antigua and Barbuda in AOSIS marks a significant stride in the
nation's commitment to addressing the pressing climate challenges faced by small
island nations. By aligning with AOSIS, Antigua and Barbuda aims to amplify its
voice on the global stage and advocate effectively for the concerns and interests of
small island developing states in the upcoming COP28 discussions,” according to
the Ministry of Health and the Environment.
As the world prepares for COP28, Antigua and Barbuda pledges to actively engage
and collaborate with AOSIS and other member states to drive impactful climate
action, foster resilience, and ensure a sustainable future for all.
The twin-island nation was represented by Ambassador, Diann Black-Layne, Ezra
Christopher, and Zachary Phillips.
