I learned with great sadness of the passing today, of James Tanny Rose.
Although he never achieved high political or governmental office, he was always close to the
political activity in Antigua and Barbuda throughout his life.
Both in the political parties and the trade union with which he was associated, he was a fearless
figure, standing up for the positions he felt were justified and always with the interest of
Antigua and Barbuda uppermost in his mind.
As a regular commentator on radio, he had no hesitation in identifying what he considered to
be unjust.  At the same time, he was always ready to advance causes that he judged to be just.
In that long and fearless journey, he naturally earned admirers and detractors.  But it was
neither fame nor notoriety that he sought; his motivation was always to venture where others
feared to tread so that every issue could be given deep consideration in the interest of the
nation.
A mighty voice may have fallen silent today, but its echoes will resonate in our memories for
years to come. We will remember James Tanny Rose as a true nationalist and patriot.
I send my deepest condolences to Tanny’s children and his family and friends.

Spread the love
