AT&LU elects new president
The Antigua Trades and Labour Union, the oldest trade union in the country, now
has a new president.
Bernard DeNully was elected last night at the end of the Trade Union’s 84 th annual
conference held at the Multi-Purpose Cultural Centre.
DeNully defeated long-standing union executive member and shop steward, Peter
Leonard in a keenly contested election. They were vying for the presidency, to
succeed Wigley George, who held the position of president longer than any other
individual.
George had long signaled his intention to retire from the post but had been urged to
stay on by senior members of the union. He did not contest the position.
