Prime Minister the Honourable Gaston Browne is among world leaders assembled
in New York City for the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.
Prime Minister Browne is leading the Antigua and Barbuda official delegation to
the 78 th Session of the United Nations General Assembly – High-Level Week
September 18 th to 23 rd 20224. The delegation also includes Health Minister, Sir
Molwyn Joseph and Foreign Affairs Minister, E.P Chet Greene and other officials.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations,
Ambassador Dr. Aubrey Webson and his team based at the Antigua and Barbuda
Mission will also participate.
The theme for this year’s UNGA is “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global
solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable
Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for
all’.
During the week, a packed agenda has been prepared for Prime Minister Browne to
include bilaterals with the UK Development Minister, the H.H Prince Faisal bin
Farhan Al Saud of the Saudi Arabian Mission among others. He will also attend
joint meetings between CARICOM leaders and the Israeli Prime Minister as well
as a dinner with the South Korean President.
Other important matters on his agenda is the Climate Ambition Summit Opening
which takes place Wednesday morning.
The Prime Minister will deliver the Antigua and Barbuda statement on Friday. He
is anticipated to speak sometime between 2 and 3 pm.
As this is the last UNGA before next year’s important meeting of the Small Islands
development States that Antigua and Barbuda will host in 2024, there are several
meetings and events associated with the conference which both Prime Minister
Browne and Foreign Affairs Minister Greene are expected to be intimately
involved.
