Excitement is building on both islands as Antigua and Barbuda’s, Mother and
Daughter duo Keisha Schahaff and Anastasia Mayers, will embark upon their
voyage to space on Thursday morning, making them the first astronauts from
Antigua and Barbuda.
The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA) has organized, two watch
parties described as ‘this incredible and historic occasion.’ One of the watch parties
takes place at the Antigua Recreation Grounds in St John’s, and the second takes
place at the Holy Trinity School in Barbuda.
The ABTA is advising those attending the watch party at both venues, that entry
begins at 9:00 am while the launch itself is set for 10:00 am.
“The watch party in Antigua will feature visiting guests Richard Branson, founder
of Virgin Galactic, and Christopher Huie, a Jamaican-American, who earlier this
year became the 19th Black astronaut,” the ABTA said in a statement.
In addition to being part of the countdown and witnessing the exciting launch of
the Galactic 02 spaceflight from Spaceport America, New Mexico, live on screens
in Antigua and Barbuda, persons attending the public event will enjoy
entertainment and activities in celebration of the occasion.
