The crowning of the Junior Calypso Monarchs capped off a day when the Festivals
Commission focused exclusively on the youth of the nation, and their involvement
in the national festival, Antigua Carnival.
The Junior Carnival festivities took place on Sunday afternoon at Carnival City
when the young mas players took to the stage to display the revelry and creativity
of carnival. This event was immediately followed by the staging of the A.S.
Bryden Junior Calypso Monarch Competition when participants vied for the crown
in two categories 5- 12 years and 13-18 years old.
At the end of the night, in the 5 – 12 Years Category, Jai’liah (Empress Buchanan)
emerged winner, with first runner-up Mighty Nick (Nicholas Perry) and second
runner-up, Calypso Lilly (Lena Mills).
In the 13 – 18 Category, the winner was Ruez (Ruez Titre), first runner-up,
Calypso P (Prisca Neptune), and second runner-up, African Prince (Noah Yeboah).
Ruez was a contestant in the Mr. Teenage Pageant where he placed first runner-up
as the representative of the St. Joseph’s Academy.
