The Ministry of Health is congratulating one of its medical officers – Dr. Shivon
Belle-Jarvis – on the successful completion of a Master’s of Science Neonatology
Degree from the University of Southampton.
Dr. Belle-Jarvis is the head of the Pediatric Department at the Sir Lester Bird
Medical Center and completed the course with merit over a period of three years.
She stated that "the right start to life is crucial, and every baby should benefit from
essential newborn care."
Furthering her studies in Neonatology, according to Dr. Belle-Jarvis is the best
way to assist in improving the quality of health care within the twin island state,
especially the first 28 days of life.
She intends to build the capacity of health care services offered to babies in the
first 28 days of life and further commits to continue ensuring preventative
measures and early intervention are available to all neonates within our shores.
Dr. Belle-Jarvis says navigating this course of study during Covid-19 was
challenging but thanked God, family, and friends for their support over the years.
She noted that learning is continuous and remains the eye through which any
country will accomplish its mission and encourages other persons to take every
opportunity to learn so that no one in Antigua and Barbuda is left behind.
