Following a highly competitive semi-final round for the placements in the Party
Monarch competition, held at the Antigua Recreation Grounds (Carnival City) on
Monday night, the Festivals Commission has released the names of the artists who
have earned a spot in the Inet Party Monarch finals slated for August 6, at the same
venue.
The artists who will appear in the Groovy segment are Tammy, Zamoni. Empress,
Queen Thalia, Menace XL, Blade, Young Lyrics, and Vicious.
In the Jumpy segment, the artists are Soca Villian, Menace XL, DJ Who, Kimmy,
Royalty, Raiine, Zamoni, and Empress.
As has become the norm with calypso and party monarch competitions staged by
the Festivals Commission, the announcement of the finalists has generated a fair
amount of controversy with fans bemoaning the omission of one artist or the other.
These disagreements are as old as the festival itself and they usually dissipate well
ahead of the finals slated for another two and a half weeks.
