The police detained two people at V.C. Bird International Airport on Wednesday
as part of an ongoing investigation.
Police spokesman Inspector Frankie Thomas says the man and woman are persons
of interest, but he could not disclose the details of the probe. Inspector Thomas
says they were attempting to leave the country when law enforcers detained them.
He says the detentions happened at about 3:30 in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, April 26, the police and customs departments carried
out a joint drug operation at Deep Water Harbour and discovered 69 packages of
cannabis among two barrels of food items. The barrels were seized and taken to the
St. John’s police station.
The seized substance amounts to 80 pounds, with an estimated street value of EC
$480,000. A 32-year-old female is assisting the police with the ongoing
investigation.
