Newfield resident and murder convict Kenworth Charles will hear just how
much time he will spend behind bars next month.
Charles, who could spend the rest of his life at His Majesty’s Prison was
scheduled to hear his fate on March 22, but due to undisclosed circumstances he
will have to wait until April 17.
The former IT technician at the then Mount St John’s Medical Centre, was
found guilty of murdering retired soldier Fitzroy Robins in Villa, three years
ago.
Robins who was 44 years old at the time of his death was killed following a
stabbing incident on Bay Street on July 24, 2020.
Charles, who was first charged in July 2020, was found guilty in February of
this year by a jury of nine who unanimously returned their verdict, despite the
claim that he was intoxicated and attacked by Robins first.
According to reports, the incident unfolded on a night previously, when Charles
refused to pay for beers he took from a woman’s cooler and tried to leave. At
some point, Robins approached Charles with a knife asking that he pay for the
drinks, which he eventually did.
The accused reportedly, never returned to that location again, until the day of
the murder when he came looking for Robins who was at the venue.
On this occasion, an argument occurred between both men which resulted in a
fight, where Charles reportedly stabbed Robins several times with a knife.
