Embattled Director of Public Prosecutions Anthony Armstrong is facing six additional charges as his legal troubles deepen.
The Jamaica Gleaner reported yesterday that three counts of uttering forged documents and three charges of forgery were introduced in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court when the matter came up for hearing on Thursday.
According to the Jamaica Gleaner, the new charges were introduced after Armstrong’s case file was reviewed further. They were not laid sooner because of the prosecutor’s urgency to appear before the court when Armstrong first appeared before the court on Monday.
Armstrong’s lawyer, Hugh Wildman, vehemently objected to the introduction of the new charges as the prosecutor had informed the court that the case file was complete.
Wildman suggested that the prosecutor be impeached for her actions.
The Jamaican attorney-at-law was arrested on Saturday upon arrival at the Norman Manley International Airport.
He was later charged with conspiracy and fraudulent conversion.
The charges reportedly stem from the sale of three properties in Jamaica 18 years ago in which Armstrong represented the complainant, who was the vendor.
The complainant in the matter reported Armstrong to the General Legal Council (GLC) over the matter when an unresolved dispute over the sales became acrimonious.
The Disciplinary Committee of the GLC in February found that Armstrong was guilty of professional misconduct for signing as witness to a document for a client who was not present.
Parish Judge Venise Blacksock-Murray was expected to rule on Thursday on the seizure of Anthony Armstrong’s passport by the police in Jamaica. However, that decision was delayed due to the new charges.
His bail has been extended to 16th November, 2022.
