According to official sources the Cabinet has received assurances from the Attorney General that the Minimum Wage Committee will submit its recommendation in a few short weeks.

“The Committee has been consulting with stakeholders for several months, before sharing its recommendation with the policy-making body,” the sources indicated.

It is anticipated that after the Cabinet receives the report and recommendation, it will consider them before taking the matter to Parliament for passage into law.

Government sources say they anticipate that by 31st December 2022, a new minimum wage will take effect.

The current minimum wage is $8.20 per hour, except for security officers who are paid a minimum of $9.20 per hour.

The last increase in the country’s minimum wage happened in November 2014.
