A teen who is accused of trying to rob the Chicken Hub on Desouza Road is now in hospital nursing a gunshot wound.

Just before 1am on Monday, the teen entered the establishment and attempted to steal the drawer securing its money.

During the failed robbery attempt, the 17-year-old Tindale Road resident was shot in the thigh as he tried to escape.

It is unclear who fired the shot.

He was offered assistance for the non-life-threatening wound by a stander-by who possessed medical training.

Upon arrival of the ambulance, he was transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he remained on Monday, receiving treatment for the injury.

The identity of the alleged robber has not been revealed.

Police are now investigating the incident.
