The Antigua Public Utilities Authority APUA) is this week celebrating its 50 th
anniversary with various activities planned to mark the occasion.
The Authority is celebrating the anniversary under the theme ‘Resilience,
Innovation, Growth and Togetherness’ and it kicks off with a church service
taking place on Monday (today) at the Holy Family Cathedral at Michael’s Mount.
One of the highlights of the activities is the return of the popular Miss APUA
Pageant, which is returning after a four-year break. The pageant takes place on
Tuesday night at the Coolidge Cricket Grounds starting at 7:30 pm, with nine
contestants taking part, representing the different units within the authority.
The contestants are; Tammisha Roberts – Miss Inet, Kimsha Manning – Miss Cash
Collections, Rochelle Kirby – Miss Telecoms Installation & Repairs, Tayjah Shaw
– Miss Data Processing, Daikoiya Thomas – Miss Corporate Communications,
Kiarah Christian – Miss Statistics, N'Dea Joseph – Miss Customer Service, Vellicia
Francis – Miss Telecoms Support, and Veyella Peters – Miss Janitorial Services.
An APUA spokesman said, during this week the authority will be making
donations to several charitable organisations and will also host customer
appreciation activities at all its branches on Friday. Events will also take place in
Barbuda.
Additionally, there will be staff centred events during this week, according to the
spokesman. Other activities are planned for the remainder of the year.
